Mattie Hawkins is in love, so in love in fact he doesn't even notice the obvious that is sitting right in front of him. His whirlwind romance to Myles Summers ended up with a marriage for the young man, leaving him with the feeling of contentment and hopefulness after losing Morgan Winters. Although he feels more love than ever, something seems amiss about Myles. Later nights at the office, spending weekends away fishing with his boss, he seems to be away more than he is home. On his twenty-sixth birthday Mattie receives a gift from a mysterious guest which blows the lid on the three year long affair Myles is having with his boss.
With his romantic life in shambles, Mattie is confused and hurt. He spends all his time working in the cafe he opened a few years ago, immersing himself in the smell of the coffee mixing with the baked goods. When a man by the name of Martin Fall comes into Mattie's cafe, he never expected him to be more than just another customer. He soon learns about the heartbreak and destruction of this man's marriage when his husband dies in a freak car accident. He feels compelled to understand and help this Martin fellow.
Is this just a coincidence or could it be fate that brought these two men together? Can Martin make Mattie see the good in his marriage to Myles or is he trying to make Mattie see the good with him?
