Eli Summers lives in Saskatoon, Canada with his fiance, Jaret and their two cats, Salem and Crayola. When he's not behind a keyboard trying to get out his next novels, you can find him making graphic art or playing Witcher 3 while yelling at the television!
Fun Fact: I'M GETTING MARRIED TODAY! *freaking out in gay*
His first novel after a 3 year draught is also on pre-order! You can pre-order it here!
Eli Summers was born and raised in Saskatoon, Canada, a small city in the middle of the Saskatchewan prairies. It is said you can watch your dog run away for two days straight. The city and the surrounding area make the perfect backdrop for most of Eli's novels. Although he plans on moving to somewhere with a little more mountain, like Kelowna or Banff, he's content to sit in his apartment, drinking coffee and dreaming about what his characters will get up to next. Sometimes he even drives out to the middle of nowhere t lie on the top of his car and watch the stars.
Eli has a knack for turning the copious amounts of caffeine (that no normal human should consume) into #ownvoices novels about boys that love other boys. Sometimes this includes a happy ever after, sometimes it involves tears, and sometimes the characters take the story in a direction even Eli didn't realize would happen. He adds a generous heaping cup of fluff, love, and angst in everything he touches, most of the time on purpose but sometimes his characters make him do it. He wrote his debut novel, The Winter Experience in 2014 and followed up with the sequel The Summer Experience in 2015. He took a hiatus of about three years because his imaginary friends wouldn't talk to him but now he has a new novel, The Art of Falling In Love coming out on August 28, 2018. He is also working on a much different kind of novel that involves the Devil, five chosen warriors and a whole lot of evil. The first episode is expected to come out on January 5, 2019.
When he's not toiling away with word counts and a thesaurus, you can probably find Eli playing video games (Saints Row 2 and Witcher 3 among his favourites), daydreaming about the mountains or cuddling with his House Panther, Salem. He dreams of one day opening a publishing press that serves the LGBT+ community with a place to get their books out to the world.
Eli identifies (currently) as Gay and prefers the pronouns He/Him.
I'm going to interview myself because I want to ave fun too!
1. Besides LGBT+ OwnVoices, anything else in your books OwnVoice (mental illness, physical disability, etc.)
My work includes Depression, Social Anxiety and OCD. Most characters don't have all at once like me, but it's there.
2. What is the best money you've spent as an author?
My graphics program, I love making covers and such and it can save me a lot of money.
3. Do you view writing as a "spiritual" practice?
Yes and No.
Yes because I love writing and it helps me relax sometimes. Creating characters, putting them into scenes and just getting to be a creative person.
No because sometimes I get so frustrated not being able to find the right words or how to start a book. I hate beginnings, with a fricken passion!
4. Have you ever googled yourself? Anything interesting?
Oh boy. I have, a few times. The first results that come up are my books and such but... apparently an Eli Summers died in 1951. There's also links to obituaries and some professor has the same name. It's actually quite interesting.
5. What part of life do you write most about? (Child, Teenager, Adult, etc.)
Young Adult/New Adult are my jams!
6. You've been transported to the world of Harry Potter! What House do you want to be in? Who do you try to date (if anyone)? Is Harry your BFF or the antagonist?
I'm a Slytherin and I WILL sleep with Draco, no questions. He just doesn't know that he wants me yet. He's just so ... beautiful. I'm not a fan of Harry, so I'd beat him up all the time. *evil laugh* But in the end, if I made it ... I would fight to save the world.
7. You meet your favourite author! They tell you they've read your book and LOVED it! What is your reaction?
I would cry. Like full out, just found out I won the lottery cry.
I have been a fan of David Levithan for years. he liked my tweet on twitter one time and I freaked out. So meeting him would be one thing, but for him to have read and liked my book. Oh sweet baby jesus, our lord and saviour!
8. You're at the club (I know we're both probably introverts but like, play along) Your favourite song comes on! What is it?
Anything by Carly Rae Jepsen. Especially "Cut To The Feeling", I'd drag ALL OF YOU out there with me.
9. You're transported to your WIP! What is your relation to the MC?
#TheArtofFallingInLove, I'd be their friends. I love Holden and Aaron.
#AbaddonSerial I would hope to GOD I wouldn't be transported to this one. I don't want this kind of world.
#ThePriceofTreason, I'd try to be Rohan's boyfriend. He's kind of amazing.
10. Anything else the readers of this world should know about you?
I'd like to thank every author for joining this amazing month! Thank you to the readers for liking, retweeting, and following the authors!
Also... after today I'll officially be MARRIED!
